Author: Kasteyev, Dauren. 1979
A historical-epic composition dedicated to the tragic pages of Kazakh history and national resistance. In the foreground to the right, a helmeted warrior on horseback is depicted with a curved saber at his hip; his monumental figure, turned toward the background, guides the viewer’s eye to a procession of mounted warriors moving through the haze under gusts of wind. In the upper left, amid the mist, a young girl with loose hair bids farewell to a warrior. The color palette is built on a cool blue-azure and lilac-gray range of the haze, punctuated by the warm ochre-red accents of the clothing and harness of the foreground rider. The expressive, generalized painting style, combined with the blurring of the distant planes and the tense rhythm of movement, creates a dramatic, symbolically charged structure characteristic of historical paintings depicting the fate of a nation.
