Moon Sky

Description

Author: Kasteyev, Abylkhan. 1904-1973
A nocturnal landscape-study depicting a moonlit sky, executed in a free, expressively impasto manner. Slightly above the center, against the dark blue sky, a round moon glows, partially veiled by swirling clouds, with a few distant stars twinkling around it. The composition is almost entirely devoted to the element of the sky, imparting the character of a pure mood landscape to the study. The color palette is built on a deep blue-to-azure range enhanced by silver-white and greenish highlights of moonlight. The thick, swirling brushwork that shapes the forms of the clouds with dynamic strokes conveys the vibration of the night air, aligning the work with the tradition of the romantic, emotionally charged landscape. At the lower right - signature and date.
