A genre composition depicting a courtyard motif features a boy seated on a bench by a fence in the right foreground, with a kumgan pitcher standing beside him. Hanging on the picket fence on the left is a syrmak decorated with vegetal ornament, while tree trunks and the wall of a house are visible in the distance. The solitary figure of the child in a quiet, light-filled courtyard imparts a nostalgic note and a sense of childhood memories to the scene. Executed in a plein-air manner with sweeping brushstrokes, the forms are generalized, with space structured through the juxtaposition of large color planes. The palette relies on the contrast of cool blue-green tones with the warm red-ochre accent of the felt rug and the light facade of the house.
