A mountain landscape with a genre motif depicts a green slope on the right, along which a herd of horses ascends accompanied by two riders; on the left rise snow-capped peaks shrouded in a light haze. The composition relies on the diagonal of the slope, guiding the viewer’s gaze into the distance, and the contrast between the foreground and the broad panorama of the ridge. Executed in a realistic manner, the forms are generalized, with details suggested by swift brushstrokes. The palette combines the lush green tones of the slope with the cool bluish-white shades of the snowy peaks and the sky.
