Description

Author: Ilakova, Mariyam. 1877-1946
An embroidered wall carpet (tuskiiz) of the canonical inverted U-shape, decorated with intricate floral ornamentation. The composition centers on a garland of wildflowers with flexible stems and small leaves, executed in satin stitch. Highlighted within the design are large, five-petaled flowers fashioned from coral beads; dominant motifs include interlaced buds, open blossoms, and flowing sprout motifs, traditionally associated with fertility and the continuity of life. The inner and outer bands of the border are similarly embroidered with coral. Further embellishment is provided by applied silver plaques set with stones, rhythmically arranged along the black ground of the border.
