Historical and local history museum of the village of Kokterek

The Kokterek Local History Museum is a regional scientific and educational institution that plays a significant role in preserving, studying, and promoting the history and culture of the West Kazakhstan Region. As a cultural and spiritual center, it has served for nearly half a century in educating younger generations and transmitting historical memory and cultural values.

The museum was established on April 22, 1975, at the secondary school of Kokterek village in the former Furmanov District of West Kazakhstan Region and was originally named the "Museum of Glory." Founded on a voluntary basis with the active participation of teachers, students, local residents, and individual enthusiasts, it became a repository for unique materials reflecting the history and nature of the native land. Over time, the museum expanded its collection significantly and developed into a fully-fledged center for regional studies. In 2004, the museum was transferred to the Kaztalov District Center for Educational Work. In January 2008, by decision of the Department of Culture of the West Kazakhstan Region, it was granted the status of a state institution and incorporated into the structure of the Regional Museum of History and Local Lore as a branch. Currently, the museum's collection includes approximately 4,000 items, consisting of historical, ethnographic, and natural-cultural artifacts. These exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the region's nature, historical periods, ethnographic characteristics, and notable individuals.

The museum’s exposition consists of six thematic halls:

1. The "Nature" Hall - presents information on the flora, fauna, geological structure, and natural resources of the Kokterek region. It helps visitors, especially students, to appreciate the importance of living in harmony with nature.

2. The "Ethnography" Hall - features the traditional lifestyle of the Kazakh people, including handicrafts, household items, clothing, rituals, and customs. This hall plays an important role in ethnographic and cultural education.

3. The "Epoch" Hall - covers the historical development of the region from ancient times to the present day, including archaeological discoveries, documents, and materials related to collectivization, famine, and political repressions of the 1930s-1950s.

4. The "Development" Hall - reflects the socio-economic and cultural transformations of the village during the Soviet era and the years of independence. It showcases changes in education, culture, industry, and sports.

5. The "Glory" Hall - is dedicated to the participants of the Great Patriotic War from Kokterek. It contains documents and relics related to their heroism and labor contributions on the home front. In the museum courtyard, there is a memorial honoring 180 soldiers who did not return from the war-a sacred site for remembrance and tribute by younger generations.

6. The "Talent" Hall - presents materials on outstanding individuals from the village who achieved success in science, culture, arts, and sports. It serves as an important element in fostering civic identity and respect for national achievements.

Today, the Kokterek Local History Museum actively operates in the fields of historical education, scientific research, public outreach, and patriotic upbringing. Its exhibitions are regularly updated in accordance with modern museological standards. The museum staff is engaged in collecting, systematizing, and introducing historical materials into academic circulation, maintaining close collaboration with educational institutions in the region and implementing programs aimed at fostering historical awareness and patriotic consciousness among youth.
