Jug

Description

A red clay jug, made of red dough on a potter’s wheel. The body is spherical, flared at the top, and the neck is cylindrical, with a pinched spout. The vertical, bent handle, oval in cross-section, is attached at one end to the top of the neck and the other to the shoulder of the body. The exterior of the vessel is covered with red engobe. The neck is accented with a ridged molding. The rim is subtriangular, tapering, and accented with a ribbed molding. The base is rounded. A crack runs along the body, along which are 10 paired through-holes, each 0.5 cm in diameter, indicating repairs to the vessel.
