Torsyk (vessel for transporting liquids)

Description

Torsyk is one of the traditional Kazakh leather vessels used for storing and carrying beverages. The vessel is made of treated leather. It has rounded sides and a narrow, elongated neck. The opening is closed with a wooden stopper. A long leather strap is attached to secure the stopper and prevent it from being lost.

This item was specially made for the feature film Nomad and was used during the filming. Therefore, the object is valuable not only as an ethnographic item reflecting the traditional material culture of the Kazakh people, but also as a cultural artifact associated with the history of cinema.

The object was donated to the museum collection by decorative and applied arts artist A. Nurgaliyeva.
