Cradle

Description

A wooden cradle traditionally used in Kazakh daily life for swaddling and laying infants. The item has a rectangular shape and consists of vertically and horizontally arranged wooden components. The cradle comprises two side sections, an upper longitudinal crossbar, side rails, transverse slats and lower curved rockers.
The two side sections feature vertically positioned, arch-shaped curved supports. They are connected at the top by a long, rounded crossbar. The side rails are secured with horizontal wooden crosspieces. The central part of the cradle contains transverse wooden slats forming the base of the infant’s sleeping area. There are gaps between some of the slats, and signs of natural wear and mechanical damage are visible on several wooden components.
The lower part of the cradle has long wooden rockers extending on both sides. The rockers are slightly curved, allowing the cradle to be gently rocked. The wooden components are assembled and secured together. The natural colour of the wood has been preserved.
The primary function of the cradle is to lay, swaddle and rock an infant.
