Description
A traditional household tool of the Kazakh people, used for pounding and grinding grain in a mortar (keli). Made of wood, it has an elongated, rounded shape. One end of the kelsap is thickened and intended for pounding the contents of the mortar, while the other part serves as a handle. The handle is wrapped with a strip of animal hide approximately four finger-widths wide. The hide wrapping protects the wooden base from cracking and increases the tool’s resistance to impact.
