The crown of the yurt

Description

The shanyrak is the round wooden part at the top of a yurt.
This item is made from strong and flexible elm wood. First, the wood was bent using steam and a special shaping device to form the outer circular rim (togyn). Then, wooden crosspieces called kuldireuishter were installed and secured inside the rim, crossing each other in a convex arrangement. Special holes were carved along the outer edge of the rim for inserting the upper ends of the yurt poles (uyks). Rawhide was used to strengthen the structure and firmly secure its parts.
Two decorated cords (baskur) were stretched over the in a cross-shaped (X) arrangement. Multicolored woolen tassels were evenly attached along the crossed cords, in the central part of the shanyrak, and around the edges of its surrounding rim.
