Still Life with Watermelon

Description

Author: Galimbayeva, Aisha. 1917-2008
A still life depicting a watermelon, fruit, and household objects arranged on a round table. In the background, an ayakkap with an ornamental design. The composition is built on a combination of rounded forms and the rhythmic alternation of objects of varying scale. The colouring is rich and contrasting, founded on the juxtaposition of the bright red-pink tones of the watermelon with the ochre, blue, and brown tones of the surrounding objects. The handling is marked by an energetic brushstroke and pronounced decorativeness. The work conveys an atmosphere of comfort and abundance, drawing attention to the beauty of everyday things.
