Description
Pectoral decoration is a traditional Kazakh women’s chest ornament. The main element of the piece is a hollow cylindrical tube, which was typically used to hold a miniature prayer book or amulet. The tube has conical ends with small knob-like attachments featuring holes for suspending chains. The central and end parts of the tube are decorated with false granulation and floral patterns in niello (blackening technique). Nine four-sided chains are suspended from the lower part of the tube, each ending with two metal plates in rhombus and teardrop shapes. From the upper side, a flat chain is attached to the tube, passing through five oval convex settings (casts). From the center of the tube, a flower-shaped plate connects to a trident-shaped pendant, with two additional plates on either side, adorned with floral designs made in chasing and niello techniques.
