As part of the Days of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation, the State Tretyakov Gallery presented the exhibition “Masterpieces of Kazakh Art,” prepared by the National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after Abilkhan Kasteyev.
The exhibition included more than 60 works of painting and sculpture from several generations of talented masters of the 20th century.
The emergence of the national school of visual arts was associated with the name of the patriarch of Kazakh painting, Abilkhan Kasteyev, whose canvases became a chronicle of the rapid changes in the lives of nomads that occurred in the early last century.
In the 1930s and 1940s, the establishment of a professional school was facilitated by artists from various regions of the USSR, and in the 1950s, its foundation was formed by graduates of the Almaty Art College, who absorbed the experience of their colleagues from Moscow and Leningrad.
The works of Aisha Galimbaeva, Gulfairus Ismailova, Moldakhmet Kenbaev, Sabur Mambeyev, Kanafiya Telzhanov, and Kamil Shayahmetov were executed in the best traditions of realistic painting, with an unwavering focus on national themes.
The exhibition introduced viewers to the achievements of outstanding Kazakh sculptors – Tolegen Dosmagambetov, Erkin Mergenov, Olga Prokopyeva, and Esken Sergebaev. The works reflected the main circle of interests and the directions of creative searches of an entire generation of masters of Kazakh plastic art.
The exhibition “Masterpieces of Kazakh Art” showcased the best examples of national visual art, combining tradition with modern artistic explorations and shaping the image of Kazakhstan in the global cultural context.
