Saken Gumarov House Museum
The House-Museum of Saken Gumarov is a branch of the West Kazakhstan
Regional Museum of History and Local Lore. It was opened in 1995 on the basis
of the former studio of the renowned artist, a member of the Union of
Journalists of the USSR and the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan, Saken Gumarov.
Every visitor to the museum can immerse themselves in the world of the
artist’s life and work, filled with mysteries and deep meanings. Gumarov’s
first solo exhibition took place in 1990 in Kyiv, where it delighted the
public. After that, the artist captivated audiences in Moscow and Budapest, and
only then presented his works in Almaty. Saken Gumarov’s art developed in three directions: abstraction, mysticism, and Turkic style. His works - Turks, Celestial Melody, White
Day of Satisfaction, White Swan, Bestiary - transport viewers
into a mysterious world. The artist became a founder of post-avant-garde
painting in Kazakhstan. It is difficult to remain indifferent when encountering
his art. The museum has two halls. The small hall features the artist’s personal
belongings: a national costume he sewed himself, membership cards of creative
unions, a dombra, an ancient Quran, a notebook with quotes from the Bible, a
certificate of completion of an extrasensory perception course, pocket watches,
paintbrushes, student IDs, and gifts. In the large hall, visitors can view Gumarov’s paintings: Shakarim, Sholpan - the Goal, Memory Turned to Stone, Birds, Unattainable
Dream, Night. Dance of the Mice, Thousands of Radiant Gleams.
