Direction and Profile of the Museum’s Activities. The subject of the enterprise's activities is the implementation of the cultural policy of art, the maintenance of full records of Gallery stocks in accordance with the current rules and instructions, the placement of stocks in specially equipped warehouses, preventive measures to ensure the safety of works, the execution of orders for state orders for catalogs, etc.
The purpose of the enterprise's activities is to organize and hold stationary and traveling art exhibitions, which are the basis for conducting art exhibitions, master classes, lectures, scientific educational and educational work in the gallery and outside the gallery on a paid basis, exchange exhibitions from art museums of the country and abroad, as well as create funds, study and preserve works of Fine, Decorative and Applied Art. Popularization of knowledge about the fine and Applied Arts of Kazakhstan, world art among the population. Ideological and aesthetic education.
History of the Museum’s Establishment. The building constructed in the 1950s was capital-restored and transformed into the “Gallery of Fine Arts” on the basis of the decision of the Akim of Almaty Region dated October 31, 2002 No. 10-275 and the decree of the Akim of the city of Taldykorgan dated May 4, 2003 No. 10-175.
By the Decree of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dated June 8, 2022 No. 887, the Zhetysu Region was established. In accordance with the resolution of the Akim of the Zhetysu Region dated August 22, 2022 No. 21, the gallery was reorganized into the State Communal Treasury Enterprise “Gallery of Fine Arts” under the State Institution
“Department of Culture, Archives and Documentation of the Zhetysu Region.”
Names of Exhibition Halls and Brief Description. In the gallery halls, exhibitions are updated monthly, and art exhibitions of various themes and artistic directions are regularly organized.
Brief Description of the Most Valuable Exhibit in the Museum Collection
One of the most valuable exhibits in the museum collection is the work by Abylkhan Kasteev titled “Portrait of Nurgazy Turganbayev”, the artist’s stepbrother. The portrait was created in 1949 using watercolor technique. The artwork subtly and accurately conveys the inner world of the subject, his restrained character, and life experience. The artist’s mastery is clearly expressed through the simplicity and sincerity of the image. The dimensions of the artwork are 36.4 × 30.5 cm.
