Mugalzhar District Historical and Local Lore Museum

Communal State Institution “Mughalzhar District Historical and Local Lore Museum” of the State Institution “Department of Culture, Archives and Documentation of Aktobe Region”.

Direction and Profile of the Museum:The museum organizes expeditions, collects exhibits for the museum fund, and conducts exhibitions,  and meetings.By using literary and archival sources, carrying out expeditions and other research activities, the museum organizes a comprehensive study of the region, its nature, history, economy, culture, way of life and traditions of the population, as well as its archaeology and ethnography.

History of the Museum: The Mughalzhar District Historical and Local Lore Museum was established on August 16, 2004, in accordance with Resolution No. 226 of the Akimat of Aktobe Region, as the Communal State Institution “Mughalzhar District Historical and Local Lore Museum”.On January 6, 2014, the institution was re-registered under the new name:Communal State Institution “Mughalzhar District Historical and Local Lore Museum” of the State Institution “Department of Culture, Archives and Documentation of Aktobe Region”.The museum is financed from the local budget.The total area of the museum building is 510.6 sq. m.The year the building was constructed is 1991 (adapted building). Number of floors: 2.

Names of Exhibition Halls and Brief Description:

1. Nature Hall: The Nature Hall presents exhibits reflecting the flora and fauna of the Mughalzhar District. An electronic panel is installed displaying information about sacred monuments of the district, forests, lakes, animals, cultural values and natural factors.

2. Ethnography Hall: This hall displays household items, national cultural values, traditional clothing and artifacts reflecting the everyday life of the Kazakh people.

3. Hall of Glory and Labor: The hall presents materials about veterans of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers, and veterans of the Afghan War. Their orders, medals and personal belongings are exhibited here.

4. “Life of the District”: This hall exhibits information about the mineral resources of the Mughalzhar District and personal belongings of honorary citizens who contributed to the development of the district.

5. Hall of Religion, Sports and Medicine:

Ancient copies of the Qur’an, sports medals and cups, and medical instruments are displayed in this hall.

6. “Cultural Figures”: The hall contains exhibits and musical instruments belonging to outstanding cultural figures who made a significant contribution to the district.

7. “Oil-rich Mughalzhar” Hall:The exhibition is dedicated to the history of “CNPC Aktobemunaigas”, and includes photographs of company leaders and models related to the oil industry.

Brief Description of the Most Valuable Exhibits in the Museum Collection: A leather-covered dombra of the elder Zhanabergen Albetov, passed down in his family since the second half of the 19th century, was donated to the museum fund despite requests from well-known national artists.A valuable exhibit is also the bayan that Eskendir Khasangaliyev obtained in 1969 during his tour in Aktobe Region by exchanging it with Sangkibay Abdullin.

A Qur’an dated 1836, which had been kept secretly for a long time, was transferred to the museum collection.

Museum Working Hours:

Working days: from 09:00 to 13:00, and from 14:00 to 18:00.

Lunch break: from 13:00 to 14:00.

Admission Fee: Admission to the museum is free of charge.
