Historical and Local Lore Museum of Zhelezinsky District
Municipal State Treasury Enterprise “Zhelezinsky District Museum of History and Local Lore” of the Department of Culture, Physical Culture, and Sports of the Zhelezinsky District.
A local history museum is dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of the history, culture, nature, and spiritual heritage of a specific region.
The museum’s focus is to present the past and present of the region in an integrated way, to collect and preserve historical sources, archaeological and ethnographic materials, documents, and photographs, and to foster a sense of patriotism and respect for one’s native land among younger generations.
The museum’s profile reflects the local characteristics of the region, including historical events, the lives and activities of prominent figures, traditions and customs, features of everyday life, as well as the labor and cultural development of the area.
On April 29, 1985, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Victory, by a decision of the Executive Committee of the Zhelezinsky District Council of People’s Deputies, the District Museum of History and Local Lore was opened on May 8.
The idea of its establishment belonged to Bauken Kabyshevich Kimalidenov, who at that time held the position of head of the district department of culture.
At the origins of the museum stood a virgin-land pioneer, geography teacher Vera Stepanovna Makovenko, who carried out extensive and labor-intensive work to organize it. The foundation of this work was, first and foremost, collecting activities based on searching for the necessary exhibits among the local population, as well as identifying archival and documentary materials.
Today, the museum includes four main halls.
1. Hall of Archaeology and Paleontology
This hall displays fossilized remains of plants and animals, bones of ancient animals, and archaeological excavation findings.
The exposition reveals the deep ancient history of our region.
2. Hall of Ethnography
Here, the everyday life, handicrafts, traditional clothing, and culture of the peoples who inhabited our region are presented.
It is a reflection of generational continuity and respect for national roots.
3. Hall of Military Glory
This hall is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and the heroism of our fellow countrymen.
It features letters from the фронт, personal belongings of soldiers, awards, portraits of Heroes of the Soviet Union, as well as materials about internationalist soldiers.
4. Hall of Modern History
This hall covers the history of the district from the post-war period to the present day.
