Kentau City Museum
The Kentau City Museum was established in 1977 at the initiative and with the support of the city’s residents. Today, the museum’s collection houses around 8,000 historical and cultural artifacts. More than 1,000 of these exhibits are permanently displayed to the public across seven exhibition halls.
The museum’s main goal is to research, preserve, and pass on the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Kentau to future generations.
The main exhibitions of the museum cover the following topics:
1. History of Kentau - this section presents the early stages of the city's foundation, its development process, and socio-economic conditions.
2. Mining and Mineral Resources - it highlights the discovery of mineral deposits in the Karatau mountain range, geological exploration work, and the development of the mining industry.
3. Labor Heroism during the Great Patriotic War - the exhibition honors the heroism of railway workers and miners who went to the front, as well as their contributions to post-war labor.
4. Ethnography and Folk Crafts - ethnographic heritage is showcased through traditional lifestyle elements, handicrafts, and samples of national clothing of the Kazakh people.
5. The Creative Legacy of Ashirbek Sygai - a special section is dedicated to the life and work of Ashirbek Sygai, a theater critic and cultural figure. It features his personal belongings, awards, photographs, portraits, and authored books.
