The ceramic vessel

Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local Lore

The ceramic vessel was discovered during archaeological excavations at the medieval settlement of Jankent. It is made of clay. The jug is 44 cm high, with a rim diameter of 23 cm. Its compact yet capacious form made it suitable for storing and transporting liquids and food products.
The outer surface of the jug is decorated with plant-like ornaments characteristic of Oghuz ceramics. The patterns are skillfully executed, giving the object a decorative appearance. Four symmetrically placed handles feature specially carved upper sections, enhancing both the functional and artistic value of the vessel.
The surface is coated with red slip (engobe), giving the ceramic a warm tone and highlighting the distinctive features of traditional pottery of the period. This jug is a valuable cultural heritage item that reflects the everyday life, craftsmanship traditions, and aesthetic taste of the people of that time.
