The jastyk aghash (wooden pillow stand)

Mangistau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore named after A. Kekilbayev

The jastyk aghash consists of two side elements, a lower (base) element, and a frontal element. On the edges of each part is an octagonal corner element that connects them and transitions into two legs. The base of the jastyk aghash is positioned at an angle, which is why both side parts are adorned with the ornament “qoshqar muiyiz” (“ram’s horn”). In the center of the frontal part, in a strictly triangular section, a star is depicted within a circle. The ornamentation of the side parts is only performed on the outer side; the inner edge is framed with a dark red stripe, while the inner surface is painted green. The relief part of the vertical corner edge, which protrudes upward, has a chip with a break. The ornament “ireksu” is placed along the edges of the decorative compositions of the jastyk aghash and on the belts of the corner facets.
Dating: 20th century.
