Dancer of Taraz

A sculpture of a woman depicted in motion: her left arm is bent at the elbow and raised to her head. Bracelets are worn on her left wrist. The waist is encircled by a wide round belt decorated with a lotus motif, over which a pleated garment is draped. Her hair falls thickly onto her shoulders. The lower parts of the legs are broken.
The figurine was discovered accidentally during the construction of a stadium in the city of Zhambyl, at a depth of 1.5 cm, as part of a complex of round bronze plaques.
