A mortar and pestle

National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Mortar and pestle. Consists of two parts: the body and the handle. A tool for processing grain crops. A hollow is carved from solid wood, tapering towards the bottom. The upper and lower parts are encircled with iron. The pestle is made from a long piece of wood. At one end, the handle is finger-shaped for tying the grain.
Date: late 19th century - early 20th century.
Place of origin: Charsky District, East Kazakhstan Region.
Material: wood, iron.
Technique: sawing, carving.
Size: height 45 cm, diameter of the neck 22 cm, length 9 cm, width 14.5 cm.
