Description

Western Kazakhstan. Baskur is a patterned woven trim used for decorating a yurt as well as for externally tightening the joints with the kerege. It consists of twisted woolen threads. The composition of the ornament is executed in the over-and-under technique called terme. It includes alternating bands of black and red colors with patterns of “zhuzteru,” and diamonds with inscribed patterns of “tortqulaq.” The edges of the baskur are framed with a stripe featuring “alamonsak” patterns in black-and-white colors.
