Book: “Journey to the Six Cities”
This book is bound in a bluish cover, with the inscription “Atamura Library” in the upper right corner. At the center of the cover is one of Shoqan Walikhanov’s original sketches, over which the book’s title-“Journey to the Six Cities”-is written in white letters. Along the side of the image, the author’s name “Shoqan Walikhanov” is printed vertically.
The book features Walikhanov’s pioneering research on Altishahr (also known as Kashgaria), based on his expedition to Eastern Turkestan. His work explores the history, geography, and social structure of the region’s peoples. Written at a high scientific level for its time, this is considered the first comprehensive study of the area by an outside observer.
