Description
Made of bronze and iron, they have different shapes and sizes, but they are united by their functional purpose - to decorate and strengthen the elements of the harness. Some fragments have holes for rivets or fasteners, which indicates their use for fixing on leather straps. On a number of parts, there are visible relief protrusions and ornamental elements, which are characteristic of the artistic tradition of the nomadic tribes of the Eurasian steppes.
Such products had a dual function:
Practically, they served as reinforcing elements of the harness, increasing its strength and durability.
Decoratively, they acted as a symbol of the status and wealth of the horse’s owner, emphasizing the ceremonial nature of the equipment.
These fragments of horse harness have been found in the burials of the Scythian-Saka nobility. They demonstrate the high level of metallurgy and craftsmanship, as well as the significant role of the horse in the military and religious life of the nomadic societies of the Iron Age.
