Description

One of the most valuable exhibits in the collection of the Mukhamedzhan Tynyshbayuly Museum of Local Lore is the steel helmet worn by Balpyk Deripsalyuly during the battles with the Dzungars.
It was donated to the museum by Muratbek Nusupbekov, a descendant of Balpyk Derbisaliuly.
Balpyk Deripsalyuly is a brave warrior from the Zhalair clan of the Elder Zhuz, a leader, an orator, an outstanding personality who had great historical achievements. Along with Eskeldi Bi and Kabylisa Zhyraul, he was considered a saint during his lifetime. He was born in 1694 and died around 1784.
Balpyk bi’s helmet was purchased by the museum staff in 1985 from Muratbek Nusupbekov, Absemet’s son (grandson of Balpyk bi), who lived in the village of Zholaman, Kerbulak district.
The helmet is brownish in color, slightly oxidized, diameter 22 cm, weight 1150 g. It is a composite helmet, domed in shape, with a roof of four ridges, the junctions of the ridges are covered with a convex thin strip plate fastened with rivets, and the lower part is fastened with a hoop 4 centimeters wide.
