Astau

Astau - a traditional Kazakh dish for serving meat, dating from the late 19th - early 20th century. The name of the master (aghash-usta) is unknown. Across all regions of Kazakhstan, wooden dishes for meat in deep round and oval shapes, called astau, were widely used. The sizes of these items vary, and their handles were mainly decorated with zoomorphic ornaments.
