Helmet

Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local Lore

This helmet was transferred to the museum collection in 1968. However, no information has been preserved regarding its place of origin or the individual who donated this valuable artifact. According to scholarly assessments, the helmet dates to the 17-18th century and is considered a characteristic example of Dzungar military equipment.
The helmet was produced using a distinctive technique: it is sewn from thick fabric and complemented with metal elements. The overall structure is divided into four sections: dragon images are depicted on the two front sections, while phoenix figures appear on the two rear sections. These motifs suggest that the helmet served not only a protective function but also carried symbolic meaning.
Materials: metal and textile. Technique: handmade. Number of items: 1.
This helmet constitutes an important historical source for the study of Dzungar-era military culture, artistic traditions, and symbolic worldview.
