Glazed jug

Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local Lore

The glazed jar is a medieval domestic ceramic object discovered at the Jankent settlement and dated to the 7th-11th centuries. The artifact was found in 2015 during an archaeological expedition at the Jankent site.
The jar is made of well-fired ceramic and covered with glaze. Although the rim is broken, the overall form and functional characteristics of the vessel are well preserved. It was used in household activities. The diameter of the base is 7.5 cm, and the circumference of the body is 53 cm.
A distinctive feature of the artifact is the inscription “Myң dildda” (translated as “One Thousand Dildas”) written in Arabic script on the lower part of the vessel. This inscription may indicate ownership, value, or carry a symbolic or economic meaning.
This glazed jar is an important source for the study of medieval domestic culture, the use of writing on ceramics, and the high technological level of pottery production in Jankent.
