The korqor

Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local Lore

The korqor is a ceramic object made in a quadrangular shape. Its outer surface is decorated with vegetal ornaments characteristic of the Oghuz tribes. The ornaments are arranged symmetrically in compositional terms and reflect the worldview and aesthetic concepts typical of medieval nomadic and semi-nomadic cultures. The vegetal motifs symbolize ideas of continuity of life, fertility, and harmony with nature.
The korqor is made of fired clay, indicating its domestic function and resistance to high temperatures.
Based on its form and decorative features, this korqor can be attributed to the medieval period. It represents an important source for the study of the material culture, artistic traditions, and religious-ritual practices of the Oghuz tribes. Moreover, the object demonstrates that everyday items in nomadic societies possessed significant aesthetic value.
