Description

A chest is a type of case furniture with a hinged lid, designed for storing clothing, household items, and valuables. In the traditional culture of the Kazakh people, the chest held not only utilitarian but also symbolic significance – it was often included in a bride’s dowry.
The front of this chest is decorated with an intricate national ornament carved in wood. The pattern is symmetrical and incorporates traditional Kazakh geometric and zoomorphic motifs.
On the sides of the chest are metal handles (maqtabarlar) used for convenient transportation. These metal elements serve both practical and decorative purposes.
The item is made of wood using traditional techniques such as carving, tapering, and polishing. The surface is carefully finished and polished to highlight the natural texture of the wood.
Such chests were widely used in the everyday life of Kazakhs and are important examples of folk decorative and applied art.
