Description

The obverse side of the medal is bordered by a side 1 mm wide and 0.25 mm high. The reverse side of the medal is smooth. The medal is connected by means of an eyelet and a ring to a pentagonal block covered with a gray silk moire ribbon with two longitudinal golden stripes along the edges 2 mm wide. The width of the tape is 24 mm. Until the fall of 1943, the medal was awarded on a square block covered with a red ribbon. On the obverse of the medal, in the upper part of the circumference, there is the inscription “USSR” in indented letters covered with ruby-red enamel. The width of the inscription “USSR” is 6 mm, the height of the letters is 2.5 mm. In the middle part there is an inscription in relief in three lines.: “FOR MILITARY MERIT.” The height of the letters is 3 mm. Under the inscription is a relief image of a rifle, with a fixed bayonet and a released belt, crossed with a saber. The length of a rifle with a bayonet is 23 mm, a saber is 20 mm. The medal was made of 925 sterling silver. The total weight of silver in the medal is 18.22 g. Dimensions: diameter - 3.3 cm, height with pad - 8 cm.
