The Literary-Memorial Museum of M. Makatayev

Construction of the M. Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum in Karasaz Village, Raimbek District, Almaty Region, was approved on April 20, 1990, by Resolution No. 544 of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR. On September 24, 1991, it was designated the M. Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum. The M. Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum opened in 1991 to commemorate the poet's 60th birthday. On July 29, 2011, to mark the 80th anniversary of the great poet Mukagali Makatayev's birth, the Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum exhibition was renovated and reopened. In 2020, to mark the poet's 90th birthday, ongoing renovations were completed.
The building covers 1,840 square meters. The exhibition features exhibits dedicated to the life and work of M. Makatayev, his career, and his creative work, providing a spiritually enriching experience for every visitor. The museum consists of two floors and three halls. Visitors can also learn about the history of the region and the life and work of our poet. The museum's primary function is to study the time and era in which Mukagali lived, to search for new historical sources related to the poet's contemporaries, to collect and study his works, to gather memories and photographs from people and village elders, and to pass on his legacy to future generations through preaching and education. The staff of the M. Makatayev Literary and Memorial Museum consists of nine people, including four creative workers and five technical specialists. The director is Yerlik Mukhametzhanuly Akhmetov.
To promote M. Makatayev's work and to increase youth interest in poetry, the poet's 90th anniversary was celebrated at a high level throughout the region in 2021. The event was attended by State Secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Kosherbayev, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Raimkulova, and Governor of Almaty Region A. Batalov, who cut the ribbon at the unveiling of a monument to the poet in the village of Narynkol. The museum project was developed by S.A. Fazylov, PhD in Economics, and A.A. Kirsanov, engineer. The design work was carried out by Sh. Kozhakhanov, Academician of the Academy of Artists. The content and concept were proposed by Zh. Oteyuly, PhD in Philology. The museum construction was carried out by A. Mukayev, Narynkol Interkolkhoz Construction Institute. The museum collection contains 1,280 exhibits.
The main collection contains 631 exhibits.
The research and auxiliary collection contains 649 exhibits.
Hall 1 presents the history of the Raimbek district, while Hall 2 features information about the poet's childhood and family history. Hall 3 presents the poet's work and career.

Handwritten notebook of the poet Mukagali Makatayev.
One of the most valuable exhibits of the literary and Memorial Museum of M. Makatayev is a handwritten notebook written by the poet Mukagali Makatayev. This notebook contains reflections on poems born from the heart of the poet in 1974. Every letter, every line is filled with inspiration and nostalgia, love for the native land. The handwritten notebook presented in the museum exposition tells about the life and creative path of the poet. Turning to the memory of the great  Zhuldyz Makatayev, he said: "My father sold his manuscripts with special care, paid attention to every word and filtered his heart." In 1991, the poet's family donated it to the literary and Memorial Museum of  M. Makatayev.

One of the most valuable exhibits in the M. Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum is the handwritten notebook of the poet Mukagali Makatayev, handwritten in his own hand. This notebook contains poems born from the poet's heart in 1974. Every letter, every line, is filled with inspiration and longing, with love for his native land. The handwritten notebook, on display in the museum, tells the story of the poet's life and creative path. In memory of the great Zhuldyz Makatayev, he said: "Papa sold manuscripts with particular care, attaching meaning to every word and filtering his heart." In 1991, the poet's family donated the M. Makatayev Literary Memorial Museum.
