Ereymentau Historical and Local Lore Museum

The Bogembai Batyr Historical and Local History Museum is a significant scientific and cultural institution operating with the aim of preserving the historical memory of the Yereymentau region in Akmola Region, studying the legacy of national heroes, and promoting it widely among the public. The museum was opened in 1991 to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of Bogembai Batyr, an outstanding military commander of the 18th century and a prominent figure of the Ablai Khan era - one of the leading fighters for the freedom of the Kazakh people.

In 1999, the museum was officially named after Bogembai Batyr. That same year, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, visited the museum as an honored guest. He donated a book with a personal inscription and a commemorative gift, which became a landmark event in the institution’s history and significantly elevated its public and scholarly status.

In 2005, as part of the national “Cultural Heritage” program, the museum building underwent major renovations, and its exhibition space was modernized. Today, the museum features four main exhibition halls:

1. Regional History Hall - This hall traces the historical development of the Yereymentau region from ancient times to the present day. It showcases documentary materials, photographs, and household items.

2. Paleontology Hall - Displays fossils and samples of ancient flora and fauna, reflecting the geological and natural history of the region.

3. Archaeology Hall - Features artifacts uncovered during archaeological excavations, with exhibits spanning from the Saka and Usun periods to the medieval era.

4. Nature Hall - Offers artistic panoramic installations illustrating the flora and fauna of the Yereymentau region. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum regularly hosts exhibitions of works by local artists and folk craftsmen. These exhibitions contribute significantly to the development and promotion of the region’s visual and applied arts.

The museum actively collaborates with public organizations, educational institutions, and research centers. For several years, its staff have conducted joint archaeological research with the renowned archaeologist Ayman Dosymbayeva. These efforts have led to the academic recognition of numerous historical and cultural sites in the Yereymentau area.

Today, the Bogembai Batyr Historical and Local History Museum serves as a key regional hub where culture and science intersect, playing a vital role in transmitting historical knowledge and spiritual values from one generation to the next.
