Zhambyl district historical and local history museum
Communal State Institution “District Museum of History and Local Lore” of the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Akimat of Zhambyl District, Zhambyl Region.
The museum, based on local history studies, is dedicated to providing a comprehensive presentation of the historical development of the region, its cultural heritage, and national values. Its activities include collecting, preserving, studying, researching, and restoring artifacts of historical and cultural significance, as well as organizing various excursions, educational lessons, and exhibitions related to the history of the region, and promoting this heritage among the younger generation.
The museum was established in 2003 under the District House of Culture. From 2003 to 2024, it was housed in the adapted premises of the “Youth Resource Center.” By Resolution No. 771 dated November 12, 2018, of the Akimat of Zhambyl District, Zhambyl Region, the museum was reorganized through separation from the Communal State Public Enterprise “District House of Culture” of the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Akimat of Zhambyl District and re-established as the Communal State Institution “District Museum of History and Local Lore” of the same department.
At the initial stage, the museum operated as a small exhibition; over time, the number of items in the collection increased and its content expanded. Today, the museum has become an important cultural center that presents the history, traditions, way of life, and spiritual values of the region. The Director of the museum is Askar Bakhytuly Syrlybayev. On September 25, 2024, a new dedicated building for the museum was officially put into operation.
Names and brief descriptions of the museum’s exhibition halls: The total area of the museum building is 963.74 square meters. Of this, 393 square meters are allocated to two exhibition halls, and 297.8 square meters to a conference hall. The museum features the halls “Archaeology, Ethnography, and Cultural Heritage” and “History of the Region in the 20th-21st Centuries.” The exhibitions display archaeological artifacts from ancient times to the present day, ethnographic items, household objects, documents and photographs, and works of applied arts and crafts. Each exhibit reflects the lifestyle and values of a particular period, introducing visitors to the continuity between the past and the present.
