Portrait of the Artist Kulipa Zhuvaniyazova

Description

Author: Zhuvaniyazov, Kuandyq. 1947-2007
Portrait of a young woman with dark hair swept back to reveal her face, wearing a black dress with a deep neckline. In her right hand, she holds a fine paintbrush. The background is built on the contrast between a dark red plane on the left and a decorative composition on the right - featuring freely painted, undulating bands and wave-like forms in muted tones. The paint application is dense; the face and hands are modeled with soft chiaroscuro, while the drapery of the dress is generalized into large dark planes. The compositional juxtaposition of the portrait and the decorative canvas in the background reflects the creative process, highlighting the theme of the artist and her art.
