Built on the classic principle of repoussoir, the landscape features a diagonal bend of blue river receding from the lower right corner into the depth, which serves as a compositional axis leading the eye past the soft forms of bushes toward the main focus - a white structure on an elevation. The handling is dense and based on impasto brushwork, where sketchy, generalized brushstrokes shape the collective volume of foliage and land contours rather than individual leaves. The impressionistic palette rests on subtle nuances of earthy, ochre-olive, silvery-green, and bluish-grey tones, while the vibrating texture of the sky captures the movement of clouds veiling a pale, luminous disc. Set against a forest backdrop, a solitary candle-like tree and the white arched structure introduce a timeless motif of solitude and eternity into the southern landscape.
