Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
Executed in a decorative, generalized style with the rhythmic application of flat, distinct brushstrokes, this rural landscape captures a vivid southern scenery. In the immediate foreground, white rooftops are depicted from a high vantage point. Behind them unfolds a panorama of a mountain slope dotted with small houses. The color scheme builds on a resonant harmony of warm orange-ochre and green tones contrasted with the white accents of the buildings. The carpet-like, mosaic texture of the brushwork and the flattened treatment of forms convey the intensity of sunlight, the tangible density of the heated air, and the decorative integrity of the landscape.
