Still Life “Watermelons and Melons”

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
Rendered in a realist manner with soft modeling of form and a restrained color palette, this still life is set against a pale background. At the center of the table, a flat dish holds four slices of yellow melon accompanied by large red and green apples. In the left foreground, half a melon reveals its juicy pulp, while on the right, three small watermelons - light green, pale, and dark - establish a rhythmic arrangement of rounded forms. The color scheme relies on a harmonious contrast of warm yellow and ochre tones of the melon with the green of the watermelons and red accents of the apples against a neutral grey wall.
