Pumpkins

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A still life rendered in an expressive, decorative style characterized by broad, energetic brushwork and a rich, resonant color palette. Set against a lilac background and occupying nearly the entire canvas, four large pumpkins rest bathed in sunlight. Their massive, rounded forms are sculpted with bold, open brushstrokes, imparting a vibrant pulsation of color and a nearly sculptural weight to the fruit. The resonant contrast of warm orange-yellow tones against the cool blue and lilac shades of the background creates a profound sense of chromatic richness.
