Portrait of a Fisherman

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A bust-length portrait of a man set against a river landscape, rendered in a free, painterly style with broad, energetic brushwork. Positioned at the center facing forward, a sun-tanned, middle-aged man with a mustache is depicted wearing a dark cap and a canvas jacket. His calm, weather-beaten face and upright, steadfast posture impart a natural dignity and convincing realism to the figure. The background features a riverbank, a vessel moored at the center, and a cloudy sky, all rendered with light, fluid strokes. The fresh color scheme-built on the harmony of greenish-ochre jacket tones with the cool blue of the water and sky-along with the painterly texture, masterfully captures the open-air atmosphere and everyday rhythms of coastal labor.
