Ekibastuz Historical and Local History Museum was founded in 1987 by G. Pavlodar regional historical and local history museum named after Potanin was established as a historical and local history department of the communal state treasury enterprise. It was opened in 1997 for the 40th anniversary of Ekibastuz based on the order of the mayor of Ekibastuz on April 23, 1996.

The museum has 10 halls (one exhibition and nine expositions).

On January 1, 2016, the main stock of the museum collection is 24,966 units. Among them there are very rare relics: the Koran of the 17th century, a German musical instrument of the 18th century - a harmonium, a collection of samovars of the 19th century, etc.

Mass education activities are aimed at loving the history of the native region, instilling a sense of patriotism, introducing talented and creative people of the Ekibastuz region: classes and excursions, lectures, master classes, meeting evenings are organized with educational institutions of all levels of cooperation and public associations.

Book publishing is of great importance. Museum "Ekibastuz" encyclopedia, collection of poems of poets of Ekibastuz region called "Ekibastuz poem field", "War. God. "Pamyat" book, "ART Shashu" applied decorative art creativity album were published.

In order to introduce the sights of Ekibastuz, including the "Bogatyr" coal mine, the museum organizes a bus and pedestrian excursion.

 Museum collection presentation in the exhibition hall of the museum, which is the only exhibition hall in Ekibastuz; Exhibitions of personal collections of decorative and applied arts masters of Aktobe, Pavlodar, Ekibastuz cities; photo exhibitions of photographers from Almaty, Pavlodar and Ekibastuz will be held.

Within the framework of inter-museum cooperation, Akmola region, with the historical and local history museum named after Bogenbay Batyr in the village of Ereymentau, with the Otyrar state archaeological reserve-museum of the South Kazakhstan region, academician K.
