Literary-Memorial Museum of S. Toraygirov
The Literary and Memorial Museum of Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov is a cultural and educational institution that holds a special place in the spiritual and cultural history of Kazakhstan. The museum was established in 1965 in the village of Toraygyr, Bayanaul District, Pavlodar Region, with the aim of preserving, studying, and popularizing the creative legacy of the prominent Kazakh poet, educator, and public figure Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov. The museum is located in the village's House of Culture and represents an architectural and cultural example of its time.
The museum’s exhibition consists of four main halls, each dedicated to a specific period in the poet's life, his works, and the historical context of his era.
The first hall presents photographs and documents that tell the story of the poet’s childhood and youth, his family background, and the environment in which he received his education. It also includes visual materials reflecting the nature and everyday life of the poet’s native region - Bayanaul.
The second hall is dedicated to Toraigyrov’s contemporaries - literary and public figures of the time. It contains their letters, photographs, and information about the literary environment of the early 20th century.
The third hall recreates the social and domestic setting of a Kazakh aul (village) at the beginning of the 20th century. Visitors can see household items, traditional clothing, and ethnographic exhibits that offer a vivid picture of life in that era.
The fourth hall covers the life of the village during the Soviet period. It features materials on the labor achievements of the local population, cultural life, and stages of the village's development. Information is also provided about literary evenings and cultural events held in the village.
The museum's collection includes valuable exhibits related to the life and work of Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov, including his personal belongings, rare manuscripts, first editions of his works, and memoirs of his relatives and contemporaries. The museum also has a scientific reference fund available to researchers interested in literature and history. The museum serves not only a memorial function but also a scientific and educational role. It hosts literary evenings, conferences, thematic exhibitions, and guided tours every year. The museum staff make a significant contribution to the promotion of cultural heritage by organizing local history lessons, poetry reading contests, and various events for young people.
The museum’s activities are of particular importance in revealing the literary and historical identity of the Bayanaul region, fostering national consciousness, and passing down the rich legacy of Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov - a figure who holds a distinguished place in the golden treasury of Kazakh literature.
