Gabit Musirepov Museum

The Gabit Musrepov House-Museum is an important cultural and educational institution dedicated to the life and creative legacy of the prominent Kazakh writer, playwright, public and political figure Gabit Makhmutovich Musrepov. The museum was established in 1992 in the village where the writer was born, located in the Zhambyl District of the North Kazakhstan Region. This institution plays a significant role in the study and popularization of Musrepov’s spiritual and literary heritage, serving as a kind of center that fosters a deeper understanding of his place in the history of Kazakh literature and national culture as a whole.

The idea of creating the museum was realized in the context of the celebration of the writer’s 90th anniversary, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A substantial contribution to the establishment of the museum was made by local authorities, representatives of the intelligentsia, as well as the writer’s relatives and close friends. The architectural design of the building and the organization of its interior space are aimed at reflecting the spiritual world and creative individuality of Gabit Musrepov. The exhibition halls are arranged in accordance with modern museological standards, while also incorporating elements of traditional Kazakh architecture.

The museum exhibition is organized into thematic sections. The central hall is devoted to the writer’s life path and literary work. The exhibition features personal belongings, manuscripts, official documents, photographs, awards, and items that illustrate his public and political engagement. Special attention is given to the literary environment that shaped the writer, as well as to his influence on the development of Kazakh literature. A separate section is dedicated to the writer’s mother, Dina Ongarbayeva, his genealogy, and family connections.

The ethnographic hall showcases aspects of traditional Kazakh everyday life. Among the exhibits are samovars, torsyks (leather vessels), samples of national clothing (both male and female), kerosene lamps, kebezhe (wooden chests), and sundyks (decorated trunks), as well as elements of traditional furniture. These artifacts allow visitors to immerse themselves in the cultural and domestic atmosphere in which the writer’s childhood and youth took place.

The museum’s activities extend beyond exhibitions. It serves as a platform for scientific and educational events: literary evenings, thematic meetings, conferences, and round tables. The museum actively collaborates with local residents, educators, students, local historians, and researchers who contribute to enriching the museum’s collection with new materials about Musrepov’s life and creative work.

Thus, the Gabit Musrepov House-Museum represents a unique space where literary heritage, historical memory, and cultural traditions are harmoniously integrated. It fulfills a mission of preserving and transmitting spiritual values, contributes to the formation of national identity, and stands as a significant element of Kazakhstan’s historical and cultural landscape.
