N. Ondasynov Museum

The Nurtas Ondasynov Museum is a cultural institution that is part of the Uly Dala Eli Center in the city of Turkistan. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Nurtas Dandibayuly Ondasynov, an outstanding statesman and public figure who served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR for 13 years.

The main mission of the museum is to preserve, study, and promote the political, cultural, and educational legacy of Nurtas Ondasynov for future generations. The museum's exhibitions aim to foster national identity and spiritual values by highlighting the personal journey, contributions, and historical role of this prominent figure.

The museum was established in 2004 by a decision of the South Kazakhstan Regional Administration to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Nurtas Dandibayuly Ondasynov's birth. Initially created as the “Historical and Memorial Museum of Turkistan City,” the institution was reorganized in 2007 into a state communal enterprise under the same name. The museum is housed in a historic building constructed in 1904.

The museum’s exhibition consists of four galleries:

The first hall features a bust of Nurtas Ondasynov and wise Kazakh proverbs. This space reflects his intellectual and spiritual worldview.

The second hall presents the statesman's biography, information about his government service, official documents, manuscripts, and a model of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The third hall showcases Nurtas Ondasynov’s creative heritage. It includes his work notebooks, personal library, books signed by authors, the Kazakh-Arabic and Kazakh-Persian dictionaries he compiled, academic commentaries, a typewriter he used, and his literary works.

The fourth hall contains his personal belongings and clothing, as well as photographs and works by Hakimzhan Nauryzbaev, the first professional sculptor of Kazakhstan. It also features a sculpture dedicated to Nurtas Ondasynov, created by Nauryzbaev’s son, Nurtas Nauryzbaev.
