Martuk District Historical and Local Lore Museum

The Mартuk District Museum of History and Local Lore is a scientific and educational institution that plays an important role in the cultural life of the Aktobe Region. The museum is engaged in the systematic collection, preservation, research, and promotion of significant milestones in the region’s history.

The museum was founded in 1979. Initially, it was located in a single room within the House of Culture and began its work with only 120 exhibits. This community initiative was implemented with the support of the First Secretary of the Martuk District Party Committee, Alexey Markeevich Trofimovich. The core of the exhibition consisted of materials dedicated to Labor Glory and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

On November 16, 2005, in accordance with Article 27 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Local Public Administration and Self-Government in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the Akimat of Aktobe Region issued Resolution No. 411, officially establishing the museum as a municipal state institution named “Martuk District Museum of History and Local Lore.” Starting from January 1, 2006, it began operating as an independent institution. The date of registration with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan is January 17, 2006.

The museum’s collection includes: historical documents related to the period of collectivization and the famine of the 1930s-1940s; photographs, awards, and personal belongings of World War II veterans; examples of household appliances from the Soviet era; traditional Kazakh crafts and yurt furnishings; as well as archival materials and documents connected to prominent regional figures and labor heroes.

The Martuk District Museum of History and Local Lore holds a special place in the cultural and historical life of the Aktobe Region. Through its activities, the museum plays a vital role in preserving the rich historical heritage of the Martuk area and passing it on to future generations. Its exhibitions, research, and educational efforts are aimed at shaping historical awareness and fostering patriotism among the younger generation.
