Coin of the Turgesh Khaganate

Description

The coin is round with a square hole in the center. A raised rim surrounds the coin’s edge. A rim also surrounds the central hole. The obverse features a circular Sogdian legend, written in cursive, counterclockwise. The legend consists of four words: “Вүу twrkys ү´ү´n pny” (Lord of the Turgesh Khagan). The reverse features the Turgesh tamga, inscribed within the coin’s field between the thick, linear rim and the square hole. The square hole is outlined by a diamond, as part of the tamga.
