Dombyra

Description

This artifact is the dombra, the most widespread two-stringed musical instrument of the Kazakh people. This particular exhibit belonged to K. Nurkhanov, an actor of the Aksu People’s Theater.
The body of the instrument is pear-shaped, with a round soundhole located in the center of the soundboard. Traditional ornamental patterns are preserved on the front of the body and where it joins the neck. Natural traces of wear and scratches caused by the artist’s fingers are clearly visible on the surface, indicating its active use over many years.The neck of the dombra is long, with frets tied along its length. The headstock is crafted in a traditional shape and fitted with tuning pegs for tightening the strings.
