Kazan

Description

Kazan - a traditional household metal vessel of the Kazakh people, serving as the main kitchen utensil for cooking. It held a special place in the culture of the communal table (dastarkhan).
This specimen is cast from cast iron and is of large size. Handles for carrying are placed on both sides. At the bottom, three legs are attached, ensuring the vessel’s stability on the hearth. An opening is present at the base. The kazan was widely used in Kazakh daily life in the 19th-20th centuries. The presented kazan belongs to the kitchenware once used in the family of the poetess Sara.
